A 10-year-old fifth-grader from Florida was arrested after a threat at school, sheriff’s officials said.

A 10-year-old fifth-grader from Florida was arrested after a threat at school, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators learned of the boy’s threats on Saturday and arrested him, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marsein said in a message on social media.

“This student’s behavior is disgusting, especially after the recent tragedy in Uwald, Texas,” the sheriff said.

On Tuesday, an 18-year-old gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uwald, Texas, and opened fire on a fourth-grade class, killing 19 students and two teachers.

Marcena said it was paramount to ensure that “our children are safe”.

According to the sheriff, investigators learned of the threatening message sent by a boy who attended Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, near Fort Myers on the Gulf Coast in Florida.

“We will have law and order in schools! My team does not hesitate for a second … NOT SECONDS to investigate this threat, ”Marcena said.

He said the school’s threat team was notified and began analytical research into the threat. Detectives then questioned the boy and found out the probable reason for his arrest.

The guy was accused of threatening to carry out a mass shooting.

“Now is not the time to behave like a small offender. It’s not funny anymore. This child has made a false threat, and now he is feeling the real consequences, ”the sheriff said.

In a video on YouTube, the sheriff’s office showed the deputy walking to the boy’s office car. The Associated Press does not identify the child because of his age.

The sheriff’s office did not say whether the boy remained in the juvenile detention center or was released to his parents.
