Teachers at the San Francisco City College have been on campus since Tuesday night to protest the dismissal. NBC Bay Area reported. Instructors set up tents and spent the night on the steps near the administration building to draw attention to the problem.

According to protest organizers, college trustees in February voted to cut hundreds of full-time classes and lay off 218 full-time and part-time teachers. The final vote is expected to take place this week.

“We already are saw cuts up to 30 percent of our classes over the past three years are here at City College, ”said Adele Fayles-Carpenter, a professor of women’s and gender studies at the college, to NBC Bay Area. “And we know that many students have been pushed out of the classes they need … We don’t want to see more of that.”
