A visa scheme is being launched for graduates of the top 50 universities outside the UK University

Graduates of the world’s top 50 non-UK universities can apply to come to the UK under the new visa scheme.

Ministers hope the “individual high-potential” route, which starts on Monday, will attract the “brightest and best” early in their careers to work in the UK.

Successful applicants with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will be issued a two-year work visa, and PhDs may apply for a three-year visa.

Government instructions state that recipients can “switch to other long-term work visas if you meet the legal requirements”.

The route is open to graduates from the top 50 universities outside the UK who have a diploma equivalent to a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree from the UK awarded no more than five years before the application date.

Although the Interior Ministry will not comment on the figure, The Telegraph said the visa scheme would be unrestricted, meaning the number would depend on demand.

Eligible universities must appear in the top 50 rankings in at least two of the following: Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, or Academic World Rankings University.

The latest list of eligible universities in 2021, published by the UK government, includes 20 US institutions, as well as universities from Canada, Japan, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, France, Sweden and Switzerland.

The government also stipulates that candidates must pass a security and crime test and be able to speak, read, listen and write in English, at least up to intermediate level B1.

The British Council, the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities, defines the average B1 level as “those who have the necessary excellence to communicate with native speakers effortlessly”.

Visas will allow eligible persons to come to the UK without prior employment offer, and dependents will be allowed to accompany them.

The visa will cost £ 715 and is charged an immigration medical fee, a fee for a successful visa or an immigrant applicant that allows you to use the NHS.

Anyone applying for a visa must have funds to maintain at least £ 1,270.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said: “This new visa proposal means that the UK can continue to attract the best and brightest from around the world. The route means that the UK will grow as a leading international hub of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.

“We want tomorrow’s businesses to be built here today, so I encourage students to take this incredible opportunity to build their careers here.”

Priti Patel, the interior minister, said: “I am proud to be launching this new and exciting route as part of our points-based immigration system, which puts ability and talent first, not where someone comes from.”

The government’s points-based immigration system means that people who come to the UK for work must meet certain requirements for which they will score points, and visas are issued to those who have enough points.
