Wiley College alumni have learned that an anonymous donor will pay their debts to the college in an unexpected statement at a graduation ceremony on Saturday.
Herman J. Felton Jr., president and CEO of Wiley College, shared the news with more than 100 alumni present.
“You don’t owe the college a penny,” Felton said said the crowd at a historically black college in Texas. “If you have balance, you had balance. You no longer have a balance. ”
The outstanding debt to the college in the class of 2022 is estimated at $ 300,000 press release from college.
This move follows the series similar ads in HBCU and other higher education institutions last year as administrators sought to reduce the financial burden on graduates during the pandemic.
