Bitwise Industries & Calbright partner to launch technical apprenticeships for the underserved

Fresno, California – Bitwise Industries ( www.bitwiseindustries.com) announced cooperation with Calbright College ( https://www.calbright.org), California’s first statewide online college focused on workforce development training to launch an apprenticeship program that will support historically underrepresented and underserved populations in California. This program will support the economic mobility of Calbright’s diverse student body and close capital gaps for those without access to traditional educational pathways.

“This partnership aligns with our mission to provide pathways to high-paying, high-quality technology jobs through in-demand skills training,” said Michelle Skoor, Chief Human Resources Officer, Bitwise Industries. “This type of collaboration is an example of how organizations across sectors can directly invest in building a diverse and equitable workforce with underserved individuals.”

The 12-month apprenticeship program will provide paid opportunities to disenfranchised communities that offer workforce training, education and employment in specific technical disciplines such as Salesforce and IT support.

Calbright, through its staff development programs in IT Support and Salesforce Administration, will provide pre-apprenticeship training, and graduates of the program will be mentored by senior Bitwise developers, providing hands-on experience with real-world work projects.

“This new partnership will leverage Bitwise Industries’ proven model of supporting historically underserved individuals with training and comprehensive services that remove all barriers to participation in the digital economy,” said Michael Younger, Vice President of Human Resources. , Strategy and Innovation, Calbright College. “92% of Calbright students are at least 25 years old, and more than 70% identify as members of the BIPOC community – often the population we serve cannot afford to stop working to invest in their own education. But over the past decade, Bitwise’s approach has shown that, given the opportunity, disadvantaged people can change the trajectory of their lives with the skills employers are looking for right now.”

Bitwise Industries has trained over 10,000 people from underserved communities, 80% of whom have succeeded in finding technical jobs. That’s more than a quarter of a billion dollars in combined wages going to individuals who have historically been underrepresented in the tech industry, mostly women and people of color. On an individual level, the average person who enrolls in the Bitwise training program earns $20k per year and upon completion earns over $60k per year.

“This collaboration brings together two California organizations with a mission to support the state’s residents, develop a vibrant economy and advance a key component of Governor Newsom’s ambitious workforce strategy to expand the state’s apprenticeship system,” said Ajitha Talwalker Menon, president and CEO of Calbright College. “Our students are parents struggling with unemployment and/or working multiple jobs to make ends meet. The investment by Bitwise Industries and Calbright will provide a means to enhance the skills of adult learners, further align the needs of industry and higher education, and promote the development of quality technical talent and jobs in high-growth and underserved areas of the state.”
