Barnsley College and GXO have officially launched an academy that strengthens the partnership between the two organizations and provides GXO students with a base on the Old Mill Lane College campus.
GXO provides students with a 12-month training scheme where they can learn about warehouses and logistics and explore the various areas of business that support its smooth running, such as personnel administrator, finance and equipment. Barnsley College supports the academic training of students.
GXO is the second largest logistics company in the country with more than 15,000 employees. GXO works with companies including ASOS, ASDA, Carlsberg and Weetabix, and has more than 140 sites in the UK.
Helen Weatherston, director of business development at Barnsley College, said:
“We have been working with GXO for many years, so we are excited to strengthen our partnership with them by launching this Academy. This offers GXO students a special space in the college to assist them in their research work. We look forward to further transforming the lives of these students and helping them move where they want to be. ”
Nicolas Barlow, a Level 2 warehouse operator, said:
“It was very inspiring when I was just starting out, I didn’t know much about the company and what it could offer. Once I learned that I could pursue my career and climb the career ladder at GXO, things got a lot more positive. You feel so valued and valued, being part of a discipleship scheme is like a family, it’s wonderful. ”
Sarah Ottewell, a student manager, added:
“I joined the team in 2017, and since then we have had 407 students, 98% of whom graduated and received a grade. It’s a credit not only to us, but to Barnsley College and their appraisers for the work they’ve put into each student. ”
Ken Perrit, director of GXO, said:
“We are proud to build on our long-standing partnership with Barnsley College, and this facility is a testament to our commitment to sustaining education and career opportunities for all.”
