The Deseret News asks a question in an article from May 12: “Standardized tests fail. What can we do about it?”
Researchers Stanovich and Cunningham, in a study published back in 1993reported that college students ’familiarity with popular fiction and journals was strongly related to academic performance on tests in subjects we would like high school students to know, including science, social studies, and practical technology.
The high school grade point average was not significantly related to test performance.
Reading interesting books can be a better way to “prepare for a test” than studying.
