MDI Murshidabad reviews have been somewhat mixed with many aspiring PGPM students wishing to compare the location, faculty, and rankings established by MDI Gurgaon with the recently launched Murshidabad campus.
Our expert – MDI Gurgaon graduate reviews MDI Murshidabad on three key aspects, namely location, faculty and rankings and shares his invaluable understanding by answering one of the most common questions, such as MDI Gurgaon v. MDI Murshidabad.
MDI Murshidabad – Introduction
The Murshidabad MDI or Institute for Management Development – Murshidabad (MDIM) provides the AICTE-approved PGPM program at the Murshidabad campus in West Bengal. MDI was established as an autonomous body in 1973 in collaboration with KFW, West Germany, and with the enthusiastic assistance of the Indian Industrial Finance Corporation.
To provide quality education, nurture talent and prepare them to become world leaders, MDI launched its Murshidabad campus in 2014. The first stone was laid by the then Minister of Finance of the Indian Union and former President – Pranab Mukherjee.
MDI Murshidabad is a very young business school that strives to create a positive impression on people, organizations and society. In 2014, MDI launched its Postgraduate in Management (PGPM), which is approved by AICTE but has not yet received AIU approval.
The MDIM campus is located in the north of West Bengal, India. MDI Murshidabad is proud to not only provide quality education but also develop the moral corporate citizens of the new India.
MDI Murshidabad vs. MDI Gurgaon: Comparison of locations, faculty and ratings
MDI Murshidabad rating
Let’s be honest. In terms of location, ranking and reputation, MDI Gurgaon v. MDI Murshidabad is the wrong question. MDI Gurgaon is consistently ranked in the top 10 business schools in India, while the MDI Murshidabad rankings lag far behind. There is no comparison, and one should not even think of comparing both campuses.
Let’s also not forget that MDI was established in 1973, and the Graduate School of Management (PGPM) at MDI Gurgaon (MDIG) was launched in 1994, 18 years before they opened their second campus in Murshidabad.
MDI Gurgaon often ranked just below the IIM (A, B, C), and in most true MDIG rankings ranked 5th. Only IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C and XLRI were ranked higher.
On the contrary, MDI Murshidabad has yet to find a place in India’s top 20 business schools and it will be more comparable to IMI-Kolkata, IMI-Bhubneshwar, IMT-Nagpur, IBS-Hyderabad, BIMTECH-Bhubneshwar, etc.
VOGUKI: Teaching and Teachers @ MDI Murshidabad
In terms of teaching and faculty, the Gurgaon and Murshidabad campuses offer a similar curriculum for their flagship PGPM program. Most of the faculty on the Murshidabad campus are from MDI Gurgaon and other leading b-schools including IIM Calcutta, ISI Calcutta, IITs, University of Jadapur, University of Kolkata, IIFT, etc.
MDI Murshidabad received an A * (star) rating at the national level and an A *** at the state level from CRISIL. MDIM was also honored to become a member of the prestigious Association of Management Development Institutes in South Asia (AMDISA) for five years from April 2019 to March 2024.
MDI Murshidabad has also set up the state-of-the-art Bloomberg Finance Lab to improve the vision of developing thought leaders and masters of change by incorporating next-generation tools into the PGPM program. MDIM also plans to set up a marketing simulation lab to improve learning and practical applications related to the B2B and B2C markets.
Thus, in terms of faculty, pedagogy, and teaching methodology, the reviews of both MDI Gurgaon and MDI Murshidabad are very good and somewhat comparable.
VOGUKI: Location @ MDI Murshidabad
In terms of location, it would again be unfair to compare the location of MDI Murshidabad with the Gurgaon campus. The average placement package at MDI Gurgaon is 19 varnishes per year, and the highest packages reach up to 40 varnishes.
According to MDI Murshidabad, b-school students have received summer internships and final job offers from leading organizations from all over India. Among them are ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, Federal Bank, ICICI Securities, Total, Berger Paints, OYO, Coffee Day Beverages, EazyDiner, MarketsandMarkets, Donaldson, SBI Life, SVG Media, Ken Research, Ipsos, VLCC, Linde, Furnace Fabrica, Bellwether Advisors, Ameriprise Financial, TATA Class Edge, etc.
While boasting attractive brands, an MDI Murshidabad placement may not look very attractive with an average package of 9 lacquers per year and the highest package of 12 lacquers. And we must also remember that the average package (almost all b-schools) is confusing, so it is better to check the average packages.
Even most business schools in India exaggerate their highest package by overstating the variable component of rewards. What exactly was a variable component of the 12 Lacs at MDI Murshidabad is unknown, and the same is true for the Gurgaon campus as well as for other leading B-schools.
Concluding the review, MDI Murshidabad is a good business school with a high value MDI brand and accepting applications (at the moment) with a low CAT score. His current rating may not be exciting, however within a few years he should slowly and steadily become India’s favorite business school.
It is worth the investment if you are ready to study in the Far East in Murshidabad.
