How to improve your home’s exterior before listing – RISMedia House Call

Before putting your home on the market, there are several tasks to complete. For example, you need to find time to improve your attractiveness. After all, you want to make a good impression on your potential buyers. If they come to your home and notice an unappealing exterior, they may hesitate to enter your home. It’s important to keep the following ideas in mind to enhance your curb appeal.

Clean the exterior

Start by spending a few hours cleaning the exterior. You must clean up all toys and outdoor equipment, and be sure to clean up after your pets. Remove leaves and debris from the lawn, driveway and walkway. You can also rent or borrow a pressure washer to clean windows, siding, and gutters. You should also sweep and de-clutter the porch if necessary.

Maintain your landscape

It’s also important to make sure your greenery is healthy and visually appealing to your customers. You need to mow the lawn and pull weeds, and trim branches, hedges and bushes as needed. Do you enjoy gardening? This is a great time to show off your gardening skills. If you’re short on time, you can always add some planters with pretty flowers.

Decorate your front porch

Once you’ve cleaned up the exterior and landscaping, consider adding a little flair to your front porch. Your veranda should appeal to all buyers, so it is better to make it simple but welcoming. Use your space with outdoor patio furniture or add a touch of nature with a few outdoor plants.

Upgrade your fixtures

Now is a good time to find out if you need to upgrade any of your porch features or fixtures. You may need a new set of address numbers or a new mailbox. It might also be time to update your porch lighting. Finally, you may decide to greet your potential buyers with a new doorknob and knocker.

Repair your roof

The last thing you want your buyers to notice is a damaged roof. Even minor damage can put off a buyer who isn’t ready to take on roof repairs. If you believe there is a problem with your roof, be sure to have it inspected and repaired by a team of professionals.

When you take the time to improve your curb appeal, you increase your home’s real estate value before you put it on the market.
