IIT-KGP has asked its students and researchers to vacate the dormitory premises and return to their homes by June 20th. Registrar BN Singh told India’s press services on Sunday that the institute wants students to return to campus in September when the new semester begins. “Out of a total of 12,500 dormitories, 5,400 were there when the closure began in late March. Another 3,000 were transported home last month, and about 2,400 are now on campus,” Singh said.
“Instead of staying on campus without classes, they can spend time with family and resume classes from September,” Singh explained. “Since the 2019-20 training session has been closed and all training activities will be completed by June 15, and regular training activities can only start in September, we are asking students (UG, PG, researchers) and project staff to stay in the dormitories / halls to go to their home. The institute will close households in all dormitories / halls from June 20, ”the registrar said.
As for the researcher, Mr Singh said they can do their research work from home and by mail as teachers respond to their needs.
