Faridcott, May 14th

For the first time, not a single student appeared before the advisory commission that organized a session today to fill 494 BDS vacancies at 10 dental colleges. This consultation was held at the Baba Farida University of Medical Sciences (BFUHS).

Why zero turnout

Instead of choosing the BDS, most students want to re-take the MBBS by appearing in NEET-UG-2022, scheduled for July 17

To the great surprise of the committee members, not a single student showed up for the BDS course offered to those who received 138 points (overall category) out of a total of 720 on the NEET-UG-2021 test. For SC / ST and OBC categories the limit is 108 points. It was the sixth round of consultations to fill 494 vacancies out of 1,000 in colleges across the state.

The reason for such a large number of vacancies is due to excessive delays in conducting NEET-UG-2021 for MBBS and BDS courses due to the Covid pandemic.

Typically, the admission process for these courses is completed by September 30, but the process for NEET-UG-2021 has been delayed for more than seven months.

So instead of choosing the BDS course, most students want to take the MBBS course again, appearing in NEET-UG-2022, scheduled for July 17, sources at BFUHS said. Even admission for MS / MD was postponed for about 12 months when the NEET-PG-2021 process was completed on May 6, 2022, rather than May 31, 2021.
