More than 23 thousand above education courses, including programs in artificial intelligence, cyber security and early childhood care, will now be available for free on a new web portal, University Grants Commission (UGC), said on Thursday.
A portal that aims to bridge the digital divide and increase accessibility above education in remote areas of the country, will be launched on Friday as part of the second anniversary of the National education Policy-2020.
The UGC has tied up with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to integrate e-resources with their Common Service Centers (CSCs) and Special Purpose Centers (SPVs) at a cost of over 7.5 lakhs to offer these courses from the next academic session of 2022. -23.
“As part of its efforts to create higher education accessible to all, Art UGC is constantly working to make digital resources available to students in English as well as regional languages,” UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said.
The aim of CSC is to provide digital access and make e-governance services available to citizens, especially those living in rural India at their doorsteps.
Nearly 2.5 lakh CSCs and SPVs are functioning in the Gram Panchayat and more than 5 lakh CSC/SPV centers are functioning across the country.
“CSCs and SPVs are managed and managed by entrepreneurs who belong to the local community and are called Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs). VLEs operate centers to earn a living by providing online services. These centers have computers and internet connectivity,” Kumar said.
Courses include 23,000 graduate courses, 137 SWAYAM MOOCs in emerging fields, and 25 non-engineering SWAYAM courses. There is no charge for accessing them on the UGC portal.
“All courses are free. However, to avail the CSC/SVP services and infrastructure, the user has to pay Rs 20 per day or Rs 500 per month to compensate the VLE’s efforts and their infrastructure costs,” said Kumar. .
“This is similar to other government projects like Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, e-Shram, Pan Card, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PMSYM) and many others,” Kumar added.
