More vacancies than unemployed – FE Soundbite edition 645 – FE News

Gavin O'Meara

Welcome to FE Soundbite Edition 645. FE Soundbite is a weekly ezine that offers you FE News that gives you snapshots of the latest news and views. We can have over 200+ pieces of FE News live content per week, so this is my little snapshot of what I found interesting this week in the world of FE, Skills and Employment.

It was another very busy week on FE News.

The 2022 EPA was excellent

It was great to see a whole bunch of old friends … and make new ones at the FAB EPA 2022 event on Thursday. Wow, what a place if you weren’t there, it was on the University of Warwick business campus just across the lake, and it was an amazing place. We broadcast the awards and the SkillsWorld radio show directly from the event. Congratulations to all the winners.

Talk about making you feel welcome, I know we work closely together … but the FAB team really made me feel accepted into the FAB family … and I don’t know if you’ve ever attended the event yourself before, but there’s actually a cool atmosphere at FAB events … and I totally feel part of the FAB family every time I’m with them … and I so appreciate it. I used to be literally on my own at previous events … and that’s amazing, so a big thank you to everyone who made me feel welcome and be part of their team. You know who you are and I congratulate you for being just good.

Great permutation, company culture, emotional intelligence, and more importantly being good

This leads to a really interesting article from Chris Thomson is about being kind, trumps being smart!! It’s worth reading, and it’s important for all of us to be reminded of this, because our students, your colleagues, and our teams are influenced by your behavior, attitude, and outlook. All of this is part of a broader package of leading amazing teams and developing amazing learners into amazing citizens, future leaders and all that. This is often ignored.

Following Chris, Nala wrote a brilliant article on company culture and emotional intelligence, how to retain and hire amazing people and lead an organization full of goals. Well, read: How can you stop feeling the impact of a big resignation?

We will publish more similar articles … as I believe it is very important to come up with different ideas and solutions for leaders to help retain and develop teams … because we need epic professionals who will also help students, businesses and communities have tools in place for team training and development.

Especially when you consider the latest ONS figures that are available now more vacancies than unemployed … this is the first time.

ONS – the cost of living and more vacancies than the unemployed

Also, for the first time that I remember, ONS also shows details about cost and standard of living. I think that things like poverty at work and the cost of living, which are an obstacle to continuous professional development or retraining and advanced training, will become increasingly important. Especially with Rishi explores why businesses are no longer investing in training their workforce… this is a problem with double composition. So it will be interesting to see what can be done to solve this huge, large-scale problem.

There was a really interesting report Prison education… if you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend checking it out. Sally Alexander also wrote a really interesting article: It’s time to unlock prison education.

EDSK has published a report on NEETs and this week.

This week you also have a lot of interesting exclusive articles … so I hope you can have a coffee, think and ponder a bit and I hope you enjoy FE Soundbite this week.

Some interesting events from FE News will be announced soon:

Ohhh … also, I worked on the idea of the event for literally five years. Now our early fans get hurt when I pull this out of my head and share visions and dreams … but yes, it happens.

Le’Nise was our first employee and she said we need to hold some events … it was back in 2003 and I said … uh, they’ve all been done, I want to do the event only in in case it is unique, spectacular and it is valuable … not just a game of money, events on the seats … well, almost 19 years later … we have a unique and impressive event full of purpose … I so high. The best comes to those who are waiting!

I will tell you more soon, but FE News has supported literally hundreds of events for almost 19 years .. but this will be our first personal and hybrid event / movement / exciting experience … and I wanted to make it a very different political event (frankly, that’s what Google is for … to talk about what has already been said) … so I wanted to do something else and it happens, it’s exciting, I’m so excited, but it’s not quite ready to tell you more about it, while we’re building the groundwork, exploring places for it (as you know me … we’re doing it, it’s going to be huge), and it’s all going to be to develop something outside of the day and start the movement.

I am very excited and I also feel so humiliated that the chosen people I mentioned all said yes, do it and how we can support it. I can’t wait to tell you more and get you involved, one thing I need is a good event organizer to support the team! … but it’s exciting. I’ll tell you more about that very soon.
