New City College has been awarded a new VIP quality badge for adult education – awarded only to providers offering high-quality courses in sectors that are key to London’s economic recovery.
Mayor’s Skills Academies quality mark designed to set high standards for training to return good jobs to Londoners and drive long-term growth.
New City College was awarded the award for courses for adults in five sectors:
- Health care and social security
To receive the prestigious Quality Mark, the NCC had to provide evidence that met the Greater London Authority’s rigorous assessment criteria to demonstrate that adult education courses in the chosen sectors are of high quality, contribute to workplace skills, support under-represented groups, well supported by employers and implement the basic principles of fair pay.
Adults looking to retrain, upgrade or gain a new qualification can be confident that New City College’s Quality Mark awarded courses will provide excellent, industry-relevant training.
Jules Pipe, London’s deputy mayor for planning, regeneration and skills, said the Quality Mark was “an important step in recognizing and showcasing good practice, enabling Londoners and employers to access the best training that London has to offer”.
New City College’s Jamie Stevenson, who is group chief executive for training and business development, said: “We are delighted to provide Mayor’s Skills Academies quality mark in the five sectors in which we applied.
“This is a great accolade for the College and recognition of how hard the staff work to ensure that our curriculum meets the purpose and expectations of the industry. It also gives employers confidence that the college is training the next generation of staff, upskilling and reskilling those in the workplace who are keen to progress and keeping pace with industry standards.”
Jamie added: “Students will also be confident that the education and training provided by NCC will enable them to be work-ready, confident that the high-quality skills training they receive will support them as they embark on their chosen careers.”
The quality mark for NCC is based on similar Mayor’s Construction Academy award that was awarded to the college in 2020.
Along with the VIP status that the Quality Mark brings, it can also mean that the GLA prioritizes the college in future funding for employment and upskilling programmes, and there will be an opportunity to work alongside other accredited providers and employers to share ideas, best practice and develop solutions for challenges in adult education to push standards.
