After IITs NIT appealed to the government to expand to meet the EWS quota. NIT-Allahabad Director Rajiv Tripati, also head of this year’s Central Board for Allocation of Places, wrote to the Ministry of Human Rights this week about the issue. The Board is responsible for holding admissions at 31 NITs.
In the letter, he said that ensuring social distance in the dormitory is a problem and the construction of new dormitories has been stopped due to the blockade.
On June 3, the IIT also wrote to the Ministry of Human Rights, asking for more time to meet the EWS quota.
All centrally funded educational institutions, including IIT, NITs, IIMs, central universities, IISER and IIITs, should increase the total number of educational institutions by 25 percent, ensuring that the existing number of places for SC, ST, OBC and general category students does not face reduction.
An official source said “NITs must jointly add 7,256 seats in two years to meet the quota. Among the 31 NITs, several introduced a quota on undergraduate courses last year. A request for an extension is for the institutions that are to implement it this year. “
