The only similarity between the first novel by 17-year-old writer Isha Nagapan “Alicia” and her second novel “Just another teenage girl” is the name of the main character – Alicia. She played with the idea of making a second novel a sequel, but then decided to give up. Naturally, because Nagapan was in the tenth grade when she was writing “Just More” … And when she read the book after the tenth grade, she hated it! “I was so angry and disappointed that I tore out a few pages,” she said.
This was to be expected, because by the time she reopened the draft, she was a different person. This change was announced due to a change in school, environment and friends. Even her reading tastes have changed. From the taste of teenage fiction she acquired a taste for fantasy, adventure and other genres. “Somewhere I began to feel responsible for expressing my opinion correctly. I realized that I had changed, and the book should change with me, ”says the author, explaining that the final version we see is the story of an 18-year-old girl who remembers her school days when she was about to go to college. “This is a book that can be read in one sitting and will take you back to school,” she said.
But what about the name? In a world where everyone is trying to create something special, what was behind her intention to choose this name? “I know people say don’t judge a book by its cover or title, but honestly, we all do. The weirder the title, the more likely we are to pick up the book. I chose this title because I want readers to feel that they have gone through or are going through the same thing, ”she says, assuring them that we all sailed in the same boat.
But if you’re wondering, being a published author at her age certainly doesn’t make her just another teenage girl. Other parents, of course, would be surprised by this, but not her. “When a 12-year-old tells her parents
“I want to publish a book!” They used to say, “In the future for sure.” Society has taught us that a child should go to school, be a good daughter, etc., but my parents have always supported me, ”said the girl, who is not just another teenage writer.
