Silicon battery maker Amprius to go public as part of $ 1.3 billion SPAC merger

Amprius Technologies Inc. has reached a deal with a special purpose acquisition company that estimates the manufacturer of silicon anode batteries at about $ 1.3 billion and will publish it, company officials said.

Amprius, based in Fremont, California, produces batteries that it says are more powerful than conventional lithium-ion cells because the battery’s anode uses energy-intensive silicon instead of graphite, a traditional material. The company is currently selling them to customers such as Airbus SE and the U.S. Army for powering electric planes and drones, and says they too can used for electric vehicles.
