Success Story: A 17-Year-Old’s First Attempt Triumph in NEET UG, JEE Advanced, WBJEE

Seventeen-year-old Avik Das stands out as a remarkable achiever who successfully cracked NEET UG 2024, JEE Advanced 2024, and West Bengal JEE 2024 in his first attempt. His ambition is to secure admission to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, where he aims to pursue a BS-MS programme in Physics with a specialization in astrophysics.

Avik’s fascination with celestial bodies, sparked during his childhood and fueled by Stephen Hawking’s books in Class 5, shaped his dream of becoming an astrophysicist. In Class 12, he excelled as the WB HS state topper with an impressive 99.2% score.

“My primary goal was admission to IISc, and achieving success in JEE Main, NEET, JEE Advanced, and IAT provided the best path,” Avik shared, reflecting on his strategy. “While many focus on JEE or NEET individually, I aimed to maximize my chances by excelling in both.”

Avik opted for the Allen online coaching programme, adhering to a rigorous study routine that included mastering NCERT concepts thoroughly for biology and chemistry, along with solving countless previous years’ questions to build confidence. His dedication paid off with a notable AIR-7 rank in WBJEE.

“The preparation for JEE, NEET, and WBJEE demanded disciplined effort,” Avik acknowledged. “Initially, my parents were concerned about the workload, but they supported my determination to pursue admission at IISc.”

Avik’s daily routine was structured around early mornings and late nights, focusing on studies, mock tests, coaching sessions, and self-study. Despite the demanding schedule, he abstained from social media and used his parents’ WhatsApp sparingly to stay connected with friends.

“Both JEE and NEET required distinct skill sets,” Avik explained. “JEE tests logical, numerical, and mathematical abilities, while NEET emphasizes factual recall and numerical problem-solving in physics. Neither exam was easy, but thorough preparation helped me secure a remarkable score of 705 out of 720 in NEET UG 2024.”

Avik Das’s journey exemplifies dedication, strategic planning, and a passion for astrophysics that fuels his aspirations for a promising future in scientific research.
