Swansea University Employment Academy (SEA) was nominated for five awards at Association of Career Alumni Counseling Services (AGCAS) 2022 Outstanding Achievement Awards.

SEA, which supports students and alumni by offering career advice and employment opportunities, was shortlisted in four categories, including:

  • Outstanding newcomer;
  • Strategic innovation;
  • Building an effective partnership;
  • And two nominations for equality, diversity and inclusiveness.

The AGCAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement notes and shares best practices among professionals involved in higher education and employment careers and their partner organizations.

SEA is recognized for its alumni support program and online interactive career development course available to Swansea University students and alumni.

Programs allow people to develop their job readiness skills and increase confidence as they prepare for the recruitment process and provide employment for graduates.

The SEA also received nominations for participation in RE: Action 24/7, a partnership between seven UK universities and TG Consultingan agency that connects faculty, students, and employers.

This unique program helps break down barriers for students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds by providing access to inspiring role models, empowering learning and reflection.

Upon completion, Swansea University students expressed a 30% increase in confidence and a 69% increase in career path.

Lucy Griffiths, head of Swansea University’s Academy of Employment, said:

“I am delighted that the SEA team has been nominated for this year’s prestigious AGCAS Awards for Excellence.

“Central to SEA’s mission is always equality, diversity and inclusiveness to level the playing field for all our students and alumni, and we have failed to achieve this and our other strategic goals without excellent partnership and a strong focus on strategic innovation.

“I am also delighted that one of our newest team members, Rob Yar, has received recognition for his influence along with a wider team for working with our talented university partners and outstanding TG Consulting.

“In addition, we are honored to receive recognition for our innovative career development course and alumni support program funded by the Government of Wales through HEFCW.

“Whatever the outcome, being nominated for such a degree is incredible and testifies to the investment in the employment of our students and alumni of the University of Swansea.”

Professor Martin Stringer, Vice-Chancellor for Education, said:

«SEA ensures that career training is present in every student trip to Swansea University.

“These nominations underscore the team’s commitment to supporting our students and alumni as they are guided in the often complex recruitment process.”

The winners will be announced during the AGCAS online conference on June 21-23, 2022.
