The biggest career event in the history of the lifting industry at LiftEx 2022 – FE News

LiftEx in Aberdeen will host the largest ever lift industry careers event, organized by the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) working closely with TechFest, the local specialist in promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) which aims to bridge the gap between school and industry and open up learning opportunities for kids like LiftEx where they can see the industry at its best.

High school students who want to learn more about the huge range of opportunities available to them in the lift industry are invited to come and learn more, talk to industry professionals and engage with global companies and organizations at the LiftEx Industry Careers Day on 6 October 2022 .at LiftEx in Aberdeen. Currently, about 130 people have already signed up for personal participation.

The day will be split into three parts, starting with LEEA hosting a careers information, advice and guidance session for students aged 16-18 and their teachers. Speakers from industry and university and military partners will introduce students to learning opportunities and career paths.

In the second part of the day, LEEA will host an interactive session where member volunteers will support students in small groups, introducing them to key parts of the industry. They will also provide practical interview sessions with tips on successful applications and resumes. Updated interactive experiments that are part of LEEA’s Think Lifting program, as well as other interactive activities, will be deployed to introduce students to key principles used throughout the industry.

Think Lifting is a schools program already established by LEEA to inspire and encourage students to consider a career in the lifting industry by connecting them with local lifting sectors. Interested LEEA members have access to a suite of tools, such as the aforementioned experiments, to promote and deliver Think Lifting sessions.

The final part of the day for the students will be an escorted tour of the LiftEx exhibition hall with a visit to the stands of the member companies that have signed up to host the students.

For greater coverage on the day, the career session will be recorded and streamed in real-time so that a larger number of aspiring students can benefit in addition to those in attendance.

Students will become more confident by being able to use their meta-skills in things like problem solving and creativity, and by getting to know people who do this at work. They will also receive important practical tips such as improving your resume.

Ross Moloney, CEO of LEEA, said:

“Through meeting industry professionals from LEEA and its members, participating in hands-on challenges, mock interviews and other activities, this event will raise awareness among faculty as well as students about the opportunities available in and pathways to the trucking industry. The free content that LEEA will offer throughout the day will include sharing industry knowledge and experience with the next generation, in addition to introducing and promoting the trucking industry. An invitation will be circulated widely to encourage members associated with local schools and colleges to do the same. We look forward to meeting schools, colleges and students on October 6 at the LiftEx Industry Careers Day.”

LEEA will work with its members to spread the word, and students can participate by applying on the TechFest website at https://techfest.org.uk/news-events/upcoming-events-new/event/154-liftex.
