“Thank you to our staff for a quick cleanup this morning. The Lincoln Memorial is open. We appreciate your patience,” NPS tweeted.
The Lincoln Memorial in the District of Columbia was closed for cleaning on Saturday morning after representatives from the National Mall said local university students celebrating graduation had left the area littered with garbage.
The National Parks Service said the memorial reopened to the public shortly before noon on Saturday after a quick clean-up to remove broken bottles, spilled wine, champagne and other debris that covered the iconic steps of the building.
“Thank you to our staff for a quick cleanup this morning. The Lincoln Memorial is open. We appreciate your patience, ”NPS tweeted.
Representatives of the park did not specify which local university, in their opinion, was involved.
