A suspect in the May 1 shooting that injured two people at a youth football game near Benton High School in Prince William County, Virginia, turned himself in on Wednesday.

23-year-old Isaiah Malik Gordon of the Harwood Oaks Court in Dumfries is charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm, possession of firearms on school grounds, two counts of charges of using firearms during a felony and two counts of aggravated assault charges. territory, said County County Chief Police Officer Prince William Rene Carr.

Earlier this month, police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives offered a $ 6,000 reward for information that led to Gordon’s arrest and conviction.

The sports grounds of Benton High School on Hoedley Road in the middle of Prince William County were filled with children and families. on the morning of May 1st on the day of the youth league, when the shots rang out.

Police say the shooting came as a result of a quarrel between three acquaintances. Hundreds of people were on the field for youth football matches with players aged 5 to 12.

Witnesses described how coaches climbed up to protect the children by covering them with their own bodies or directing them to the woods to hide.

Police said the 24-year-old man was seriously injured but was expected to survive. Another victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before police arrived.

Detectives believe the two victims quarreled with Gordon, whom they know, and Gordon pulled out a gun and made “several rounds”, injuring both, Carr said.

After Gordon surrendered, he is in the Prince William-Manassas Regional Prison.
