The Tamil Nadu Assembly a bill was passed Monday giving the state government the right to appoint vice chancellors in various directions universities the state is obviously trying to trim the governor’s wings on the issue.
Minister of Higher Education K. Ponmoudi introduced a bill to amend Tamil Nadu University Laws that allow the state government to allocate venture capital to universities.
The BJP opposed the bill at the introductory stage, while the main opposition AIADMK, excluding the remark of the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, leader of the Legislative Party of Congress K. Selvaperunthagai, organized an absenteeism before the bill was passed.
Earlier, Chief Minister MK Stalin, asking members to support the government’s initiative, said that even in Gujarat, the state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vice chancellors are appointed not by the governor but by the state.
The same was true with other states, including Telangana and Karnataka.
The opposition PMK supported the bill.
