The Unibuddy community is designed to offer prospective students a “formal, safe space” to socialize with other students in their cohort, make friends, and “strengthen proximity to colleges and universities” before they make final learning decisions.
The platform, hosted in the mobile application, “continues on the path of equality, but on the other hand,” Unibuddy Co-founder and CEO Diego Fanara told The PIE.
“We started on an equal footing by creating this bridge between prospective students and current students. Then we saw this as the students approached enrollment and they were [clear] in fact, what educational institution and subject they wanted to enroll in, they needed peers less than current students, it was peers who were on the same path as them, ”he explained.
While enabling prospective students to connect with like-minded students before admission, the “mutually beneficial solution” seeks to help universities build a community as soon as possible after admission, which in turn will help keep students from enrolling.
Over the past three to five months, institutions have participated in a pilot beta, as a result of which they used the product to “create a sense of belonging” and move them through a funnel before registration.
Unibuddy noted that there is still good traction when the product is distributed worldwide.
The University of Indiana, using the Unibuddy Community, led to the 83-member Future Hoosiers 2022 – India exchanging hundreds of messages ahead of its arrival on campus.

“Unibuddy has responded to our request for a product that would allow us to bring all our students together in a new environment in a way that encourages a sense of belonging at the right time in their journey,” said IU Director of International Partnerships Seth Walker.
“Relationships between students have been a key part of our strategy since the adoption of Unibuddy, and we can now talk to each other to give them unique and genuine peer support.”
