Websites + Marketing: Drive more traffic to your site with Google Smart Campaign

In addition to optimizing their website for organic search, small business owners also need to advertise their products through paid search campaigns to gain maximum exposure to potential customers.

However, creating and analyzing such campaigns can be very difficult and time-consuming for small business owners – especially if your passion lies in your small business rather than becoming a digital marketing expert. That’s why we’re happy to announce it Websites + Marketing now offers the ability to directly create Google Smart Campaigns from its universal dashboard to engage customers.

Google Smart Campaigns will allow customers to find businesses online for products and services through search, maps, YouTube and more. The campaign creation process is quick and intuitive, and allows business owners to track the results of each campaign. Early adopters receive an additional $500 in ad credits when they spend $500 on their first search campaign within 60 days.

Link your Google Account to your Websites + Marketing dashboard

Before we begin, you will need a Websites + Marketing account. Then log into your GoDaddy account and select Websites + Marketing Site. On the dashboard, select Marketing > Digital Advertising. Once there, you can create a Google Smart Campaign by clicking on Create a Google ad.

note: If not already linked, you will need to link your Google Account to Websites + Marketing Hub. GoDaddy will automatically determine if this account has advertising capability and will automatically add the capability if not. GoDaddy will also allow you to sync your Google Business Profile with this account.

Select a campaign type

Once you’ve linked your account and selected Google Ads, you can choose the goal of your Google Smart campaign. If your goal is to get more calls or get more visits, you will be asked to verify your phone number or physical address, respectively.

Set up your ad campaign

From there, you can include up to three ad titles to launch your campaign. You can choose from a predefined selection based on Google’s algorithm or enter your own. Next, you can choose two ad descriptions to accompany your ad title. Again, you can choose from a predefined selection based on Google’s algorithm or enter your own.

Google will automatically experiment by matching different ad descriptions with ad titles on search, Maps, and other Google partner sites, and default to the combination that performs best.

After you’ve chosen your ad title and description, you should choose five to seven keyword topics for your ad. These are the broad search terms for which your ad will be shown to customers online. Keyword topics are also suggested based on recommendations based on Google’s algorithms, so it saves you the effort of coming up with your own.

Select the execution options

Once you’ve chosen your ad descriptors, headlines, and keyword topics, you can adjust your performance options to best suit your business needs, such as geography and budget. The interface will provide a recommended budget based on your company’s goals, industry type, and the performance of other similar companies in Google’s database.

You won’t be charged for this performance unless your ad is clicked, so you only pay per click.

note: If your goal is to get more traffic or if you have a physical location, then the default interface will use your specific address. The distance you enter will determine which customers will see the ad in the geographic area.

Track your results

To track results, you’ll need to publish your website to GoDaddy and allow GoDaddy to run Google Ads using your account (if you haven’t already).

You’ll be able to track the results of your Google Smart campaign on your digital advertising dashboard. After your ad ends (or while it’s running), you’ll be able to track the number of times your ad was shown (impressions), the number of clicks, and your cost per click (CPC). You’ll also be able to see which search terms your customers are most likely to click on your ad and what the costs were for those search terms so you can optimize your future campaigns.

If you’ve published your website with GoDaddy, then Google Smart Campaign will sync seamlessly with your website and display the results of website traffic from the campaign.
