What does it mean to be a good corporate citizen?

How to maintain company culture during a pandemic: an example

Being a good corporate citizen is important – and the last few years may have taught us that we need to do a little better. Having a job is the main focus for most people, and make the most of the experience – nothing to sneeze at. Many of us worked in undesirable environments, while others were lucky enough to get a job that would improve them as professionals and give a sense of stability. There is nothing better than feeling professionally safe – so are there things we can do to contribute to creating this type of environment in our workplace? Indeed, there is.

As we enter the new year, why not take some time not only to reflect on how we have reached this point, but also to think about what we can do to make 2021 a positive start? One way to do this is to better understand the role we play in our professional community. We must strive to help our colleagues achieve greater and better. We need to create experiences that will lead to more peaceful and productive work processes. We need to understand that the professional choices we make will enhance or limit our ability to recover from the gaps that many of us have experienced in 2020.

We can start by making sense. It’s important to understand that this isn’t someone else’s making sense in our careers. We have to do it ourselves. The great news is that it’s easy to do, finding passion in your work, devoting yourself to it, caring for the people we work with, talking effectively when problems arise, and choosing to own our energy. Let’s clarify:

1. Choose what you like

Even if you are on a temporary job or have a job that is not your dream, finding ways to evaluate it will be very important. For example, are there tasks that you do well that no one on your team does as well as you? Do you communicate so well that you help avoid mistakes, provide clarity, improve interaction between teams, and help team members feel more involved? Use this skill to remind yourself of your worth. Do you share many values of your organization? Look for the common ground to appreciate that you are part of something greater than yourself. It all comes down to the choices and things you choose to focus on.

2. Stay engaged

Genesis busy at work will affect your level of commitment not only to your work, but also to your team and the organization that gave you the opportunity to earn a living. This is not always easy, especially when there is a dynamic of confrontation among leaders. But what other people focus on not only has nothing to do with you, but should not affect your ability to remain committed to your responsibilities. If the environment in which you find yourself is not very desirable, find ways to reorient, reconnect, and limit your personal interactions with anyone who fails you.

3. Gratitude

It is very important to evaluate the efforts of your colleagues. Share a kind note after a strong contribution to your project or say a simple “thank you!” that’s all you need to do. People want to work with someone who appreciates their contribution. Make this “someone” you. This will improve relationships and connections, and make it easier for your colleagues to help in emergencies. Also, if the gratitude is genuine, you will feel good if you share it.

4. Remember your interaction

When there are problems in the team, communication is often to blame. Be focused in communication and focus on finding solutions. Talk, even if you are ignored. Take proper care so that you can be at peace.

Pay attention to the work and everything will eventually fall back into place. In occasional cases where your manager is not doing his part, do your part and create a better experience for yourself. Simply put: decide that you can make a positive impact, and make it important!

5. Choose your energy

Your mental energy can help you become a better colleague and a more productive professional. Often, when an organization or team is going through difficult times, it affects the personal level of team members. You need to maintain a positive energy level if you want to cope with this situation.

Optimize your mental energy sleep well, train, appreciate your environment and get rid of negative situations and negative conversations. Focusing on the mission and projects of your work will help you maintain your personal strength and inner peace.

6. Develop good habits

These first five points will not give you success unless you create a method for normal practice. Remember not to react to the reaction of others to you, and make inappropriate those who seem to negatively affect your well-being. This way, you can focus on your skills, contributions and ability to help your team and organization, even if that person is in power.

Stay on the ground and be gracious. Not everyone understands his influence, even the leaders. When and when a person returns to a positive state of mind, he will not only appreciate that you have maintained self-control, but you will also leave him or her with a lesson in professionalism.

Being a good corporate citizen is not always easy, but it is the key to a successful professional experience. Organizations are experiencing ups and downs – some seem to be on a continuum. You can use levers emotional intelligence, resilience, focus and appreciation to enhance your corporate citizenship. People appreciate working with people who support their enthusiasm, as it facilitates working with them and promotes the unique qualities they bring to the team.

Here is the challenge I urge you to take on this year: how will you serve yourself, your team, and your organization as a good corporate citizen?
