There can be a number of descriptions on what life skills are.  A human needs a set of social characteristics and personal qualities in order to engage with themselves and other people in and around their environment, to make high-level decisions, and to solve a variety of problems.

In other words, life skills are a set of abilities that enables people to live happy, fulfilling lives and achieve their full potential. People who have adequate life skills thrive. In this context, a meaningful existence is defined as mental well-being, self-awareness, skills for understanding humanity in others, and efforts to improve one’s community’s well-being.

What is life skill education, and what does it entail?

The youngster acquires the ability to discharge his life effectively and to organise his life’s tasks in a methodical manner, finally of this. It is a style of teaching in which the child’s abilities and intellect are developed so that he can make judgments in unusual circumstances based on his ability and intellect. Simultaneously, such suffering must also be generated in human existence. So that he or she can develop his skills as a citizen.

As per the World Health Organization, life skills as a set of psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills that assist people in making informed decisions, solving problems, thinking critically and creatively, communicating effectively, building healthy relationships, empathising with others, and dealing with and managing their lives in a healthy and responsible manner.

Why Is It Important to Teach Life Skills in School?

It can lead to an increase and improvement in self-awareness and mental health.

Young individuals can better grasp who they are and what they want out of life by learning life skills. Furthermore, young people become more conscious of their own hardships as well as the struggles of those around them.

In fact, according to an American Psychological Association study, teens’ average stress level was 5.8 (on a scale of ten), which is significantly higher than the maximum healthy stress level for adults, which is 3.9.

Young people who are aware of this are better able to cope with their circumstances and identify when they require assistance. Bullying and violence are reduced as a result of this. The ordinary high school kid has a plethora of real-life obligations.
