Why we use a multilingual district-wide platform for personalized communication


With more than 15,000 students in 25 different schools in central Washington state, one of our main goals this past school year was to develop a multipurpose communication system that was the same for teachers, schools, and the district. We looked at the options in the market, talked to other districts about what they were using, and then installed a new school-to-home communication platform for the 2021-2022 school year.

One of our concerns when adopting the new platform was whether it would be able to handle multilingual communications for districtwhere our students speak eight different languages ​​- mainly English and Spanish, so that used to be our sole focus.

If you take Spanish and English out of the mix, we’ve never had a conversation using six other languages ​​before, unless it was an individual education plan or something else that needed to be translated. We have never conveyed our usual messages in ALL the languages ​​that affect our families.

We can now communicate with these families through our communication platform in their native language. This happens at the teacher level and then at the department, school and district level. Feedback from teachers and parents about the translation capabilities of the platform was exceptionally positive.
